Side boards were new to the Federal style.  The long delicate legs give a light and delicate feel to an otherwise massive piece of furniture.  The recessed center section and ovolo ends also help to minimize the mass of the façade.  The spectacular crotch veneer and the geometric inlays typify the elegance of the Federal period.
