Cherry with satinwood stringing and satinwood and walnut inlay.  Top 64''x32". 

Desks of this type were introduced into this country from French neoclassical designs of the late 18th century.  It is a fine case of form following function.  The understated inlay is typical of cherry furniture of the Federal Period.
